About the crossing

The Malaysia–Singapore Second Link opened in 1998. It is a bridge of about two kilometres between Tuas in Singapore and Gelang Patah in Johor. On the Singapore side you clear at Tuas Checkpoint, at the end of the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE). On the Malaysian side you clear at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), which links to the Second Link Expressway towards Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru and the North–South Expressway.

There is no walking crossing at Tuas. Everyone crosses in a car, on a motorcycle, or on a bus or coach. Malaysian tolls apply on the Johor side.

Getting across by bus

Causeway Link runs the regular buses over the Second Link. Like at Woodlands, you get off at each checkpoint to clear immigration, then board again.

Coaches to Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and other cities also use this crossing. Check with the bus operator for current routes and timings.

When Tuas beats Woodlands

Tuas carries much less traffic than the Causeway. If you live in the west of Singapore, or you are heading to Iskandar Puteri, Legoland, Gelang Patah or the North–South Expressway, Tuas is often the better choice even on a normal day.

When the Causeway is badly jammed, Tuas can save you time even if you live in the north or east. The trade-off is a longer drive and tolls on the Malaysian side. Check both scores before you leave: if Woodlands is jialat and Tuas is smooth or mild, it is usually worth the detour.

How good is our Tuas score?

Fewer people post about Tuas than about Woodlands, so we have fewer reports to work with. When there are no recent reports, the Tuas score is marked as an estimate and leans on what is usual for that hour and on live LTA data. Treat it as a guide, and if you are at Tuas, a quick report from you helps everyone behind you.
